Dynamic Anatomy. This is a book that would be of interest and value for middle- andhigh-school students interested in drawing the human figure. Thebook's author, Burne Hogarth, had a lengthy career that engaged himin the worlds of fine art, illustration and cartoon drawing. He achievedwide recognition for his illustrations for the comic strip comic strip,combination of cartoon with a story line, laid out in a series of pictorial panels across a page and concerning a continuous character or set of characters, whose thoughts and dialogues are indicated by means of "balloons" containing written speech. "Tarzan" (1937-50). He was one of the founding members of theSchool of Visual Arts The School of Visual Arts (SVA), is an art school in the New York City borough of Manhattan, and is one of the nation's leading independent colleges of art and design. It was established in 1947 by co-founders Silas H. in New York. In his preface, the author observes: "The art process is notsimply countless, uncontrollable free expressions, but it is the resultof historical understanding and experience formed into a freelyexpressed, clarified judgment." The book begins with a chapterdealing with the historical evolution of drawing the human figure. Thisis a development that presents profound insights and understandings ofthe social-cultural concepts of art from prehistoric cultures to ourmost advanced civilizations, past and present. As the author states:"If art can be seen as the refined endeavor of human aspirations,the figure in art is its most important expressive concentration."
