Without question, each of these individuals has madesignificant contributions to the field of art education. How wonderful it is that Sylvia Corwin has taken the leadership inediting Exploring the Legends: Guideposts to the Future. Along with hercollaborators, Michael De Siano, Arthur Eflaud, Prabha Sahasrabudhe,Robert Saudus, Judith Burton and Elizabeth Sacca, she has assembled avolume that provides insights and understandings of people and ideasthat have shaped art education. Here one should make note of the strengths and differences thatcharacterize Lowenfeld, Ziegfeld, D'Amico and Arnheim. Theindividual chapters make clear the multidimensional nature of arteducation and the distinctive contributions made by each individual.Their strengths have offered guidance and emphasis to what we do; theirdifferences have better informed us of nuances and particularities thatenrich our common bonds. The book includes an introductory "Overview of the 20thcentury" that sets the context for the contributions of these fourmale "legends." It concludes with an "Epilogue: Legendsin Context" that tells of women art educators Natalie RobinsonCole Natalie Robinson Cole (1901 – December 12, 1984) was an American educator whose teaching methods in her elementary classroom have attracted the attention of many art educators over the years. For much of her career, Cole taught inner city children in the Los Angeles area. , Olivia Riley, Belle Boas, Marion Quin Dix, Mary A. McKibbin andothers, whose efforts have brought us to where we are today.
